Chia Seed Xylitol Tea – Red Sugar Life Yumminess
I wrote about one of my favorite drinks which is xylitol tea, here. And now, I am here to write about another yummy thing I make, Chia Seed Xylitol tea! It uses my xylitol hot tea as a base, with the addition of YUMMY chia seeds. These are some of my favorite foods in my Red Sugar Life. Chia seeds are so wonderfully versatile, and there are an abundance of delicious creations you can make with them. I use chia seeds in all kinds of things both hot and cold, including ice cold water! Here are some of the amazing benefits of chia seeds:
- They contain antioxidants, and antioxidants help to fight inflammation in the body.
- They are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, and they are a source of omega 6 fatty acids as well.
- They are a plant source of protein, containing 2 grams of protein per tablespoon.
- They can be used in drinks, such as teas, shakes, smoothies, and more, some of my favorite ways.
- They can be used as a replacement for eggs in some baking recipes.
- They make a yummy topping for yogurts and creamy foods.
Chia Seeds In My Tea? Oh YES!
I absolutely love chia seeds, and started adding them to my tea because of their texture, mucilage, and their incredibly high nutritional value. They are the perfect addition to warm tea. For me, part of the fun of drinking chia seed tea is sipping the soft “bubbles” chia seeds form. This is because as chia seeds get wet, they begin to release their mucilage (the stuff that gives them the wet slippery coating). Be careful though, when you add chia seeds to any liquid you really need to stir it well! Or shake, depending on what liquid you’re using and the container. The chia seeds will clump together if they are not stirred well. Not fun. Also make sure you give the seeds enough time to absorb liquid! With warmer liquids such as tea, chia seeds release their mucilage much faster it seems. If you drink it too soon, the chia seeds will have not released enough “slipperiness” and are not as pleasant to sip on.
I Like It With Honey Too!
I have enjoyed a nice warm cup of chia seed tea today before I wrote this article, and I had it with raw honey as I was also drinking it it to help my immune system. It is winter, that time of year where certain types of illnesses are more prevalent, so raw honey with its immune boosting antibacterial properties was the perfect addition for me. I use a small amount of honey, so I do not experience a large spike in my blood sugar levels (blood glucose levels). I wrote about raw honey and its benefits here.
How I Make My Chia Seed Xylitol Tea
This tea is beautifully simple to make. I start off by making my xylitol tea as a base.
- After you have made your xylitol tea, you will want to measure out your chia seeds. I usually measure out about 1 tbsp for my cup of tea.
- While your xylitol tea is still nice and hot, add in your chia seeds.
- Give it a nice, strong stir right away and keep stirring for about a minute or so. If you still have little clumps here and there that’s fine, as long as most of the seeds are separated.
- After you stir it well, let it sit for a good 5 minutes or so to allow the seeds to absorb the tea and form their bubbles.
All Set!
And now, all that is left for you to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the cup of yumminess you made. I am going to make a cup (or two) myself, and continue to live my Red Sugar Life.
