About Me

Welcome to RedSugar.Life!

I am Luna, creator and owner of Red Sugar Life and I suffer from Type 1 Diabetes with insulin resistance. It is also known as Mixed Type Diabetes or Type 1.5. It is very uncommon, and unfortunately very challenging, exhausting, and frustrating to deal with day-to-day.

What is type 1 diabetes you may ask? There are multiple types of diabetes, and Type 1 diabetes is a genetic autoimmune disease. It is currently not preventable nor curable. It is not a lifestyle disease and has nothing to do with diet; you cannot “catch” type 1 diabetes from diet or lifestyle. Type 1 diabetes is uncommon. Out of all diabetics, only around 10% of them are Type 1, and far fewer of them suffer from insulin resistance in addition to being type 1, such as myself. As my doctor stated to me, “it’s a double whammy!”

…Thanks Doc.

So I am stuck with this uninvited, mean, demanding “house intruder”  in my body for life, and everything I do must revolve around my blood glucose levels or  my “blood sugar” (something most people / non-diabetics don’t need to think about day-to-day as their own bodies have the ability to manage it on its own). So I came up with the term “Red Sugar Life” as a way for me to describe me and my intricate life as a type 1 diabetic, specifically a type 1.5 diabetic.  I’m living the Red Sugar Life.

It is very frustrating to deal with, but I have learned so much and overcome so many challenges with this unpreventable, incurable disease. I’m proud of myself! 😀 There is always more to learn it seems but at this point in my life I feel that I am ready to speak about some parts of my life and struggles with this autoimmune disease, some things I have learned and experienced over the years, as well as what I may be experiencing and learning in the here and now.

RedSugar.Life is my personal space for me to talk about some of my unique experiences as a diabetic and my point of view. I also write about some aspects of my life as a Type 1/1.5 Diabetic, as well as share information about my diabetes, lifestyle, wellness, and other related topics of my choosing. No two diabetics are the same, and my personal experience as a Type 1/1.5 diabetic is unique.
